Charlton Heston Academy is an established public charter school. We are seeking passionate and dedicated educators who wish to join a supportive and collaborative team. At Charlton Heston Academy you will have a significant, lifelong impact on all of the scholars you encounter. Educators have the support of caring instructional coaches , the administration team, and strong curricular materials to develop and implement effective school programs.

Hybrid/Remote Contracted Position.

  • 90% remote. 10% on site.
  • 15 hours per week/ 60 hours per month

Qualifications:

·Must have a valid Michigan Administrator Certificate, AND

o MDE approval for director or supervisor of Special Education through the Office of Special Education

· Master’s degree in special education or equivalent

· Minimum of 4 years work experience in special education

· Satisfactory criminal background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Provide remote special education instruction and support to students in Michigan (90% remote) .

•Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to address each student's unique needs.

•Collaborate with a clinical team to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach to student development.

•Utilize a virtual toolkit to engage students and enhance the remote learning experience.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and attendance.

•Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school staff to provide updates on student performance.

•Technical team available to assist with virtual platform setup and troubleshooting.

Ensure compliance under all state and federal mandates including, but not limited to: IDEIA and ESSA. Develop administrative procedures and prepare state and federal reports per compliance mandates.

  • Examine confidential student files to monitor for compliance with state and federal compliance.
  • Serve as a contact person for parents, teachers, principals, and others from outside agencies.
  • Conduct In-service training for special education teachers and other staff members.
  • Assist the principal(s) with special education staff evaluations.
  • Provide and maintain child count information as required by state and federal regulations.
  • Provide information for maintenance of proper class size and utilization of staff to improve special educational programs.
  • Assist in the adaptation of Academy policies to include special education needs.
  • Supervise the special education program’s effectiveness on a regular basis.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Order testing supplies as needed by special education teachers.

· Contribute to the development of the Academy philosophy of special education.

· Assist in the recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of any special education personnel.

· Secure consultants as needed to work with students with special needs.

· Collaboration and coordination with system-wide administrators and specialists in the implementation of quality instructional programming.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

NON-CRITICAL COMPONENTS:

· Demonstrate clear, concise, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Ensure that special education staff follow all policies, guidelines and procedures as directed by Academy Board policies.

· Attendance at board meetings when requested.

· Provide public information about special education programs.

· Serve as a role model for the moral and ethical growth and socialization of the students.

· Maintain good rapport with students, parents, all co-workers, management, and within the community.

PAY IS NEGOTIABLE. HYBRID POSITION.
